The Harbour, our nurture provision, is for children who find it difficult to manage the demands of a mainstream classroom. This provision is for children with social and emotional needs. Nurture groups assess learning and social and emotional needs and give whatever help is needed to remove the barriers to learning. In The Harbour we place great emphasis on language development and communication skills.
Welcome back after a lovely half term!
The children will be introduced to clear structure and routine that is clear to both staff and children which include group listening and speaking, work tasks, individual and shared play and social skills. The Harbour runs on consistency, positive reinforcement and praise and within the settling in period, the children will take part in lots of team building activities and will be exposed to skills sets to support them with key social skills, confidence boosting and self-esteem.
This half term the children will be continuing our topic ‘Inside Out’. This is a fabulous set of stories about different emotions. We will be focusing on these separate emotion throughout the term: fear, joy, anger, sadness and disgust. Throughout these mini topics we will be teaching the children about different feelings and to support them manage these appropriately. We will be making emotion bottles, worry monsters, calm down kits and treasure troves.
In the second half of the term, we will be learning all about Easter traditions. The children will be learning the story of ‘We’re Going On An Egg Hunt’ by Laura Hughes. The children will be finding out about Easter symbols, celebrations around the world and Easter celebrations in a Christian Church. Of course we will be having an Easter egg hun!
